For the first time in several years, we have a bonafide title race on our hands in the Scottish Premiership this season. Rangers are currently hot on Celtic’s heels in Scotland’s top division – and BBC pundit Tom English believes that the Celts are starting to feel the heat.

Celtic slumped to a disappointing 1-1 draw against Kilmarnock at the weekend, dropping two invaluable points at Celtic Park. Should Rangers record a victory over St. Johnstone, they would leapfrog the Hoops in the league table.

The Gers are currently in a rich vein of form, while Celtic are comparatively floundering. Rangers have won all five of their last five league games, while Celtic have won just three.

What did Tom English say about the Celtic fans and the Scottish Premiership title race?

Speaking to BBC Sportsound, English said: “There is, and I’m not going to generalise, amongst some Celtic fans, a sense of entitlement. They don’t want a title race.

“They haven’t had one in all the titles that they’ve won, OK, Rangers interrupted that very briefly, but all the titles they’ve won, they’ve won them very easily. Some Celtic fans don’t like the fact that there is a genuine title race now and they’re reacting badly to it.

“Brendan Rodgers, it’s difficult for him to criticise the board for the lousy transfer windows that they’ve had back-to-back. It’s very difficult for him to criticise the fans because they might turn on him. He’s not going to criticise his players, so the easy out is to criticise the media for this narrative of pressure that has built up.

“It’s not the media’s fault – after the Hearts defeat at Celtic Park, a number of Celtic fans reacted very, very angrily. It’s not the first time and it won’t be the last time, I suspect.”
