John Hartson Makes Frank Admission As He Names Who The Title Favourites Are Out Of Rangers And Celtic

Ex-Celtic striker John Hartson has said that Rangers are the “favourites” to win the Scottish Premiership title.

Philippe Clement’s side still trail their Old Firm rivals in the table but Hartson says the Hoops’ poor form has led him to believe that the Gers will finish first:

“Right now, I would probably make Rangers favourites. I really, really would, just because of the way that Celtic are not convincingly beating teams. They are going 1-0 up, they’re getting pegged up, then they’re getting a late winner.”

Since the Light Blues lost the last Old Firm derby back in late December, they have responded with 5 wins on the bounce.

While it hasn’t always looked convincing, Clement’s team have picked up maximum points and closed the gap on Celtic.

A lot can still happen between now and May

While the momentum is definitely with Rangers at the moment, there are still two games to come against Celtic before the end of the season.

You do feel that a lot will hinge on the results of those two fixtures, with the two teams being very closely matched.

Not many Rangers fans would have predicted this situation back in October

The club was in crisis when Michael Beale was sacked as manager near the start of the season.

Nobody would have believed you if you said that, within four months, former Celtic players like Hartson would be backing the Gers to win the title.

All of the credit has to go to Philippe Clement for steadying the ship. The Belgian has a clear vision of what he wants and that has helped the squad and the club to unite in a very short period of time.

As mentioned, there is still a lot more work to do if Rangers are to complete a remarkable turnaround and secure top spot.
