Rangers are close to signing Bologna centre-back Filip Helander, according to reports in the Scottish media.
The Gers are believed to have agreed a £3.5m fee for the 26-year-old with the Italian club.
Helander is expected to sign a four-year contract, and if he does sign on the dotted line, he will be manager Steven Gerrard’s eighth signing of the summer.
Supporters on Twitter are excited by the prospect of Helander, but are somewhat surprised by the fee that the club are paying:

Love this. Also, it’s gone from £4.2m to £3.5m in the space of an hour. At this rate, we’ll get him for free.

No surrender Filip Helander

Result better than the 4.2 million quoted. Think he might just be our first choice cb.

How this was kept under wraps until a deal was agreed is tremendous. Ticks all the boxes for what we need as well.

Helander has been at Bologna for two years, but he fell down the pecking order at the end of last season with the Serie A side following the arrival of Sinisa Mihajlovic as manager.
The defender is, though, a Swedish international, with eight caps to his name. He has started all four of Sweden’s Euro 2020 qualifiers, playing in the 3-0 win over Malta, and the 3-0 defeat to Spain last month.
