Rangers number one Jack Butland is expected to leave the club at the end of the season, according to La Derniere Heure (via Ibroxnews.com).

The Belgian newspaper claims the 31-year-old has made it clear that “his wish” is to move back to the English Premier League this summer.

Butland has rebuilt his career with the Gers, having spent the second half of last campaign out on loan at Manchester United, where he didn’t play a single game.

After leaving his parent club Crystal Palace on a free transfer last July, he made the switch to Glasgow where he has been outstanding in between the sticks for the Light Blues.

Butland has racked up 23 clean sheets and conceded only 40 goals in 49 appearances since arriving at Ibrox.

Why is Butland looking to leave Rangers?

While there is no confirmation that the keeper is keen on moving back to England at the moment, there are clear motivations for him to do so.

Despite being tipped for a call-up to his national team last month, he was overlooked by Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate. Subsequently, though, Southgate was pictured watching Butland during the Old Firm derby.

It’s possible that a conversation between the pair took place where Southgate said his selection chances would be improved if he left Rangers. There is no evidence to back that assertion though.

Who could replace the Gers no.1 if he does depart the club?

La Derniere Heure have also confirmed that Philippe Clement’s side are looking at Standard Liege keeper Arnaud Bodart.

With sporting director Nils Koppen and Clement both having strong knowledge of Belgian football, it seems likely that they would scout the Pro League for potential transfer targets.

Bodart is 26, five years younger than Butland, and he will have just a year left on his contract this summer so he could be available for a reasonable price as well.
