King Fears Losing Rangers Boss To European Elite As He Makes Liverpool And United Claim

Former Rangers chairman Dave King says there is a danger that the Light Blues could lose Philippe Clement to a high-profile European club in the near future.

The likes of Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich will have vacant posts to fill this summer, while there is constant talk about Erik ten Hag leaving Manchester United at the end of the season. Speaking to The Rangers Review, King suggested that, if Clement continues to impress at the Gers, some big teams may start enquiring about the services of the Belgian:

“I really think we have got a platform now and I just hope we are able to keep the manager. If you look at it right now and the international market for managers, I am watching it a lot with the Liverpool situation, and I say ‘where is the quality of the manager’?”

“Liverpool are looking for a manager, I think [Manchester] United will be looking for a manager, we have got Barcelona looking for a manager, Bayern looking for a manager. You look out there and ask ‘where are these managers’?”

“I would think that our present manager, particularly given that [Ange] Postecoglou has done so well with Spurs as well, I think we are going to have to work hard to hold on to him because there is a dearth of really good managers out there. I am very excited about him.”

Clement’s record since moving to Ibrox has been excellent

Since being appointed by Rangers back in October, the 50-year-old has won 26 of his 33 matches in charge, drawing 4 and losing just 3 times. That’s an impressive win ratio of 78.8%.

Very few supporters believed that the club would get back into the title race after the poor start to the season but, heading into this weekend’s Old Firm derby, they sit one point off leaders Celtic with a game in hand.

A victory at Ibrox on Sunday afternoon would go some way to securing what would be a very unlikely title for the Bears. If that happens, other teams will certainly sit up and take notice of Clement’s achievement.
