Rangers Target Ivory Coast International With £2.25m Release Clause

Rangers are interested in signing Slavia Prague centre-back Simon Deli, according to reports in the Czech Republic.

Both the Gers and Belgian club Club Brugge are believed to be keen on the Ivory Coast international.

Deli reportedly has a €2.5m (£2.25m) release clause, but Rangers want to secure the defender for a lower amount.

Slavia Prague have reportedly offered the 27-year-old a new contract, but with the player’s current deal expiring at the end of the season, they may have to sell this summer if he doesn’t sign on the dotted line.

Deli could add experience to Rangers’ backline following the departure of Gareth McAuley on a free transfer.

Manager Steven Gerrard currently has three senior centre-backs at his disposal with Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic and new signing George Edmundson.

However, the Scottish club could do with a fourth centre-half, especially if the Light Blues are going to play in four competitions this season.
