Sutton Calls On Gerrard To Speak Out After Key Figure Leaves Rangers

BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton has called on Rangers manager Steven Gerrard to reaffirm his commitment to the club after Dave King stepped down as chairman.

The South African businessman brought the 39-year-old to Ibrox two years ago, but after he was replaced by Douglas Park in the role, Sutton says Gerrard should make a public statement about his future:

“Dave King was the guy who brought Steven Gerrard to the football club and Steven Gerrard trusted Dave King implicitly. So maybe it’s about time that Steven Gerrard came out and made a statement, just to calm the waters at Rangers at this moment in time.”

This appears to be a bit of mischief-making on Sutton’s part who is trying to paint of picture of boardroom chaos at Rangers following King’s departure.

It has been reported that the chairman was always expected to make way at the end of March, and even though the current situation may have led to him reconsidering his position, the original plan seems to have been stuck to.

It is up for debate whether Gerrard really needs to make a further commitment to the club, considering he only signed a contract extension until 2024 back in December.
