Sky Sports Pundit Gives Rangers Star Both Barrels After “Worst 90 minutes”

Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd did not hold back in his criticism of Nikola Katic after his abject performance in the 2-2 draw against St Johnstone yesterday afternoon.

The Croatian made a series of mistakes during the game at McDiarmid Park, including an error for St Johnstone’s opener, and Boyd said he can’t recall the last time a Gers defender put in a such a bad display:

“It was the worst 90 minutes I’ve seen from a Rangers centre-half. That I can remember anyway The first three clips here [footage of Katic mistakes] are before the goal – the goal went in in the eighth minute.”

“Steven Gerrard sent George Edmundson out to warm up after 10 minutes. For me, personally, I struggle to find a worse 90 minutes from a Rangers centre-half, I’m sorry. I just thought from start to finish, it wasn’t good enough.”

Edmundson was lined up to replace Katic, but after the match, Gerrard revealed that he hesitated about bringing off the defender so early on in the game.

The Bears boss suggested that making such a drastic decision would have destroyed the 23-year-old’s confidence, which would not have been beneficial for the long term.

Even so, it is highly unlikely that Katic will be in the starting line up for the Europa League clash against Braga on Thursday following such a wretched 90 minutes.
