Rangers defender Leon Balogun says he expects to stay at Ibrox beyond the end of this season.
The Nigerian international was given a one year contract when he arrived on a free transfer from Wigan back in July, but the Light Blues do have the option to extend the centre-back’s stay for another year. The 32-year-old says he is very keen to sign an extension:
“I am pretty confident there will be something to talk about soon. I see no reason why I won’t be here.”
Manager Steven Gerrard told the media back in January that he wanted Balogun to remain with the Gers, following a string of excellent performances which have helped the newly-crowned Scottish Premiership champions concede just nine goals in 32 league games.
The club do, though, have some decisions to make at centre-back. With Nikola Katic expected to make his comeback from injury in the summer, and George Edmundson set to return from his loan spell at Derby County, Gerrard could have six centre-halves in the squad, including January signing Jack Simpson.
