REPORT: Rangers Could Launch Bid For Alternative 23-Year-Old Striker Transfer Option

Rangers are thought to be interested in a transfer move for highly-rated FC Utrecht striker Tasos Douvikas, according to Greek sports media outlet Nova Sports.

An excerpt from Nova Sports report reads [translated from Greek]: “In particular, Rangers is [sic] determined to submit an official proposal to Utrecht for the Greek centre-forward, with the amount to be deposited amounting to eight million euros!”

Which other strikers, besides Tasos Douvikas, are Rangers interested in?

With fan-favourite Alfredo Morelos set to depart the Ibrox Stadium in the summer transfer window, Rangers are searching exhaustively across Europe and beyond for a replacement.

So far, Rangers have been linked with centre-forwards such as Lawrence Shankland, Sam Lammers, Cyriel Dessers and Josh Maja.

The Light Blues will be searching for a player who can fit the mold of Morelos – a hard-working, physical striker who possesses excellent movement and a burning desire to score goals. In this sense, Douvikas fits the bill perfectly – and at just 23 years of age, he still has plenty of room to develop and grow as a player.

It is crucial that they bring in a top-quality striker in the summer. With so many names linked with the Gers, it is clearly a top priority for the club – but they must ensure that they sign the right man.

Tasos Douvikas football career summary so far

Born in Athens, Douvikas joined his first youth team, Aristeas Argous, when he was just nine years of age in 2008. He went on to sign for Asteras Tripolis in 2017, before making the jump to Volos in 2020.

An impressive season with Volos led to him being headhunted by FC Utrecht, who snapped him up for a fee of just under £1 million. Since then, he has scored 29 goals in 69 appearances for Domstedelingen.

Despite his young age, Douvikas has already earned a number of caps for his native Greece. Since 2021, he has made 15 international appearances for Galanolefki, scoring a single goal. He was a prolific goalscorer at under-19 level, where he scored seven goals in ten games.

Last season was a breakout campaign for the 23-year-old. He found the back of the net on 22 occasions for Utrecht in all competitions, notching up four assists along the way.
