REPORT: Rangers Set To Complete Transfer For Striker ‘This Week’

Rangers are looking to complete a signing for Atalanta striker Sam Lammers (currently on loan at Sampdoria) ‘this week’ according to a tweet from journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Rangers have had a bid accepted for the player and have reportedly agreed a contract with his agent – as such, a medical will take place today.

Romano also mentions that Rangers are interested in a move for Jonathan Panzo, with talks ‘ongoing’ – but nothing official has been submitted or completed as of yet.

In Romano’s tweet, he wrote: “Rangers are set to complete deal to sign Sam Lammers this week — medicals are scheduled on Wednesday.

“Understand Rangers have also asked for Jonathan Panzo again as new centre back, talks are ongoing — but there are also German and English clubs keen on signing him.”

Would Sam Lammers be a good signing for Rangers?

With talisman striker Alfredo Morelos set to depart Rangers in the summer transfer window, the Light Blues are currently in the hunt for a new star striker.

A towering hitman, Lammers isn’t a massive goalscorer, having scored just six league goals since 2020. However, his key strengths lie in his ability to hold up the ball – he is incredibly powerful and is imperious in the air. Using his massive frame, he can create space for his teammates to run into and link the play between midfield and attack.

Lammers is not the only centre-forward on their shopping list. They are also believed to be interested Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland and Cremonese forward Cyriel Dessers.

It’s unclear as to how many of these targets Rangers will be able to sign. We will have to wait and see which option they choose – even as a move for Lammers begins to reach its more advanced stages.

Sam Lammers’ career so far

Born in 1997, Lammers signed his first professional contract at PSV in 2015. He made 20 appearances in total for Boeren, scoring four goals.

In 2020, he joined Atalanta. His time at the club has been characterised by a series of loan spells at the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt, Empoli and Sampdoria. In total, he netted two goals in 17 games for Atalanta.
