“Not Guaranteed…” Beale Raises Concern About Last Minute Hijack As Rangers Close In On Second January Transfer

Rangers manager Michael Beale has refuted reports that they have tied up a deal for Standard Liege midfielder Nicolas Raskin.

Trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano says the Gers have reached an agreement with Standard to sign the 21-year-old but Beale was more cautious when asked about the transfer:

“There’s loads of interest in him and has a lot of options, I believe. He’s someone who can connect the midfielders and forwards. He’s technically very good and could play as a No. 6 or a No. 8. He would be a good signing for someone. It’s an eye-catching one because of his age and the fact his contract is running down. He’s very well thought of in the Belgian national team set-up. I can’t confirm anything right now. We’re closer but it’s not guaranteed right this second.”

As Beale says, there has been interest in Raskin from a number of other clubs. Reports have suggested that the likes of Serie A leaders Napoli and Portuguese side Benfica are also keen on the player.

The latter could lose Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea before the transfer deadline and they may opt to use some of the proceeds from that potential sale on Raskin.

For the time being, there is no cause for alarm. Beale is likely hesitant about confirming a transfer before all the paperwork is completed. At the moment, it does look as if the Light Blues will secure a second January signing before the window shuts.
