Murphy Adamant Gerrard Would Turn Down Arsenal To Stay At Rangers

Steven Gerrard’s former Liverpool teammate Danny Murphy says that the Rangers manager would likely reject a job offer from Arsenal in order to stay at Ibrox.

After helping to secure the Light Blues’ first Premiership title in a decade, speculation has increased on whether Gerrard will now be pursued by teams in England.

Using Arsenal as a hypothetical example, Murphy said Gerrard would likely stay in Scotland were such a job to become available, although he thinks he would leave Rangers if Liverpool come calling:

“Going to Arsenal for example, say he got offered the Arsenal job tomorrow, I don’t think he would take it. He’s getting success at a big club, he’s learning, everything is going well and then you are going to put yourself in an environment where you’ve not really got the tools to succeed.”

“And therefore your reputation is lessened and your chances of getting the ‘big job’ at Liverpool becomes less because I think that’s the aim. As I’ve said, his work ethic, his desire is there to see for all at Rangers. I know him, his desire in management will be to manage Liverpool, it won’t be to manage Arsenal.”

Gerrard’s attachment to the Gers is clear for all to see. He is focused on doing his best for his current club and Murphy’s remarks appear to suggest that he won’t be leaving any time soon.

Liverpool may well be going through a sticky spell under Jurgen Klopp at the moment, but they will almost certainly keep faith with their current manager for the long term, so Rangers fans should be confident of Gerrard staying.
