Chris Sutton Makes Surprising Claim About Gerrard’s Legendary Status At Rangers

BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton believes Rangers manager Steven Gerrard will become a legend at the club simply by stopping Celtic from winning their tenth league title in a row.

The Gers are on the cusp of securing top spot following their win over St Mirren yesterday and, asked to assess what it means, Sutton claimed that Gerrard will go down in the club’s history:

“Stopping the 10 is such a big deal and it’s been tough. Rangers have stuck with him. He didn’t win anything in his first two seasons. But he has been building and they’ve been so so impressive this season. You talk about [Alfredo] Morelos being a key player, he’s made every player in that squad better this season. They’ve blown Celtic away and are doing well in Europe but just for stopping the 10 he will be a legend.”

The Light Blues have had a nightmare decade following their relegation to the bottom tier of the Scottish game. It has been a long haul back to the top but Gerrard’s appointment has been crucial in getting the club back where it belongs.

Three years ago, Rangers were a million miles behind Celtic, and it didn’t look realistic that they would be competing for the title anytime soon. However, Gerrard, with the help of significant investment from the board, have put a squad together which is not only capable of competing domestically but on the European stage too.
