Kenny Miller Names The Rangers Star Who Has To Be “One Of The First Names” On Gio’s Teamsheet To Face Liverpool

Ex-Rangers striker Kenny Miller believes that Scott Arfield has to be named in the starting lineup when the Light Blues host Liverpool at Ibrox on Wednesday night.

The 33-year-old’s ability to make forward runs could cause the Reds a lot of problems, and Miller feels the midfielder is the “only” player that possesses that trait in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad:

“For me, whatever shape Gio goes for against Jurgen Klopp’s men – Scott Arfield MUST be deployed within it. If Rangers want to take anything from this game, he should be one of the first names on the manager’s team-sheet. They need a goal. Whether it’s Alfredo Morelos or Antonio Colak up front, it doesn’t really matter. But they need someone else to provide a threat. And Scotty Arfield is the ONLY guy in that Rangers squad who can do what he does. He’s one of the few midfielders in this country who runs forward without the ball…”

Miller goes on to say that he was very surprised that Arfield did not get off the bench at Anfield last week as he could have disrupted Liverpool’s backline:

“I still can’t believe that he didn’t get on the pitch at Anfield on Tuesday night. But he has to play at Ibrox this week. Rangers were non-existent as an attacking force on Merseyside. But Arfield will help Rangers’ strikers. He might just take Virgil van Dijk or Joel Matip away from Morelos or Colak. Runs affect the opposition, they disrupt backlines.”

While Arfield has been selected to start in the Gers’ last three league games, he has been an unused substitute in two of the three Champions League group matches so far.

Miller does make a convincing argument about keeping him in the team, though, and we shall have to wait and see whether van Bronckhorst chooses to pick the Scottish-born Canadian in his eleven later this week.
