Jurgen Klopp Singles Out One Rangers Star For Praise Despite Liverpool’s Dominant Display

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said the Reds would have scored more goals against Rangers on Tuesday evening if it wasn’t for Allan McGregor.

The 40-year-old performed heroics to keep the score at 2-0 on the night and, after the match, Klopp recognised the role that the veteran shot-stopper had played:

“Offensively, (we) created an awful lot without using (the chances). Rangers’ goalie made a couple of really nice saves.”

McGregor has had to battle to get his starting spot back after Jon McLaughlin was favoured by manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst in the opening weeks of the season.

Many supporters agreed with the decision to drop him, after a number of disappointing displays last campaign, but he has answered his critics with his performances since returning to the team.

McGregor’s reflex save from Diogo Jota in the second half at Anfield was a particular highlight. His agility to tip the Portuguese forward’s shot over the bar shows he can still cut it despite his age. He will undoubtedly remain the club’s number one going forward.
