“Impressed…” Ferguson Ponders Rangers Swoop For 24 Year Old Midfielder Who Played 4 Matches At the World Cup

Ex-Rangers captain Barry Ferguson says he has been “impressed” with the performances of St Mirren’s Keanu Baccus.

The 24-year-old only joined the Saints from Western Sydney Wanderers in the summer but he featured in all four of Australia’s matches at the World Cup. Although he is still on the fence about whether he has the ability to play for the Gers, Ferguson has still liked what he has seen of the player:

“St Mirren may struggle to hold on to him. Whether he’s good enough for Rangers or not, that’s to be seen. But he’s certainly impressed me in the games I’ve seen him in for St Mirren.”

Baccus is a holding midfielder by trade, which is a position that manager Michael Beale could do with strengthening. Ryan Jack and Steven Davis are out of contract at the end of the season, while the futures of Glen Kamara and James Sands are also uncertain.

It is still unlikely that the Light Blues will make a move for someone like Baccus during the January transfer window but, if he continues performing well for St Mirren between now and the summer, he could be added to the list of potential transfer targets.
