Following Alfredo Morelos’s stupid red card against Hibernian at the weekend, some Rangers supporters have been calling on Giovanni van Bronckhorst to hand Zak Lovelace a chance to shine.
The teenager was recruited from Millwall on a free transfer this summer, and he has already impressed for the B Team, scoring a hat-trick on his last outing against Dalbeattie Star.
With Morelos now suspended, fans on Twitter have been debating whether van Bronckhorst should call up Lovelace for the first-team:
Watched him against Cumbernauld Colts he is skilfull and aggressive in his play and for his size he has speed. I would give him a shot later in the game.

We won’t play him .. same as Lowry

I would have him in the team before Morelos regardless.

Bit of a joke if he’s not on the bench tbh. Have faith in the kid, who looks like he is ready

Definitely, this lad was getting 1st team football down south, so he could handle it no bother! Well worth a spot on the bench at least.

As some have pointed out, van Bronckhorst doesn’t really turn to youth in key matches. Alex Lowry has remained on the periphery despite looking like he could make the step up when given chances in the first team last campaign.
With Antonio Colak and Fashion Sakala both still available, it seems unlikely that Lovelace will be considered, even with Morelos suspended. If he continues to impress for the B Team, though, he may get a run out in the domestic cups.
