Aston Villa are now one of SIX clubs pursuing Rangers defender Calvin Bassey, according to inside source The 4th Official.
Reports in England have suggested that Steven Gerrard’s side are closing in on a deal for the 22-year-old, but it appears there are many other teams involved:
”According to my sources, Rangers have over 6 clubs interested in Bassey right now and Aston Villa are one of them.”

Supporters on Twitter are very reluctant to let Bassey leave Ibrox but most do accept that there may come a point where an offer is too good to turn down for the fullback:

As much as I’d love him to stay, if we can leverage the interest from several parties to get the best deal for the club then we have to do it. Getting 30 mil+ for your two wingbacks who have played less than 50 games between them is great business and the model we need to follow.

Considering Bassey arrived on a free transfer from Leicester City in 2020, the Gers could make a massive profit on the player. With six clubs interested, Rangers can afford to hold out for a very good price too, so they do hold all the cards.
If the Light Blues do receive a sizeable offer for the left-back, the money could then be reinvested with manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst needing funds to improve his squad ahead of next season.
