“He’s Not Going To Get Me” Dutch International Rejects Claims That He Is On Ross Wilson’s List Of Transfer Targets

Anderlecht centre-back Wesly Hoedt has laughed off reports that Rangers were interested in signing him.

It was suggested last month that Gers’ Director of Football Ross Wilson was considering a move for the Netherlands international, after previously playing an integral role in his switch to Southampton, but Hoedt has rejected those claims:

“Together with my agent, I laughed about that message in the English media. The sports manager of Southampton is now in Glasgow, but he’s not going to get me, you know. Moreover, I’m doing well at Anderlecht. In time, I want to play Champions League here, and I’m close to the Netherlands.”

Considering that Rangers have just announced the signing of Hearts defender John Souttar on a pre-contract agreement, it suggests that the Scottish champions were never interested in going after Hoedt in the first place.

With the deal for Souttar now in the bag, it does also mitigate any concerns about Connor Goldson’s potential exit on a free transfer in the summer.

Whether the Gers will also be looking for another centre-half this month, though, we shall have to wait and see, but one thing is for certain, we won’t be seeing Hoedt coming in through the doors at Ibrox.
