Rangers have confirmed the signing of defender George Edmundson from English League Two side Oldham Athletic.
The centre-back reportedly cost £650,000 and is manager Steven Gerrard’s sixth signing of the summer.
Fans on Twitter can’t wait to see Edmundson in action and are hopeful he can realise his potential at Ibrox:
He’s a big lad with great potential. ???

Very happy. Building a solid defence. With players with proven ability. And with likely good sell on value ?⚪️?

Think him and katic will both be desperate for that 1st team, can only make them both better. Not seen much of edmundson but have to imagine due diligence has been done on the boy, absolute unit as well!

Unknown. He could be a rough diamond, he could be a good squad player or he could be a Rob Kiernan. Let’s see when he gets some games and hope for the best

Canny be worse than Worrall

He made the team of the season in league two, lots of ariel threat in that long ball division. I am confident he is more Clint Hill, rather than Rob Kiernan.

Edmundson himself says he is delighted to have signed for Rangers. He admitted that there were a number of clubs interested in him, but when he heard the Gers were after him, he knew who he wanted to sign for:
“This is a dream come true for me and I am so happy to get it over the line. Now I just can’t wait to get going. I’m only a young player but to come to Rangers is a massive opportunity and I feel like I can live up to the expectation.”
“There were a few clubs interested but as soon as I heard that Rangers were in for me there was only one place I wanted to come to.”
The 21-year-old will need to prove himself in order to break through into the first team. Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic were a good centre-back pairing at the back end of last season and will take some dislodging.
Edmundson is unlikely to be the only centre-half signing this summer, though, with Joe Worrall having returned to Nottingham Forest and Gareth McAuley’s contract expiring at the end of this month.
