Rangers Weigh Up £1m Bid For 21-Year-Old As Club Play Hardball

Rangers are considering whether to increase their bid for Oldham centre-back George Edmundson, according to reports in the Scottish media.

The Gers have had two offers rejected by the Latics with the English League Two club demanding £1m for the 21-year-old.

So far, Rangers’s highest offer has been £600,000 but the Light Blues may have to match the asking price if they are to secure Edmundson’s signature.

The defender has been interesting a number of English Championship teams, and the Scottish Premiership side will be mindful that drawn-out negotiations could see another club hijack the transfer.

Rangers are currently short of centre-halves following Joe Worrall’s return to Nottingham Forest after a season-long loan spell.

Manager Steven Gerrard currently has Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic and Gareth McAuley as his centre-back options but McAuley will leave when his contract expires at the end of this month.

Ross McCrorie can also deputise in the position but the midfielder has been tipped to leave on loan this summer.
