Hagi Reveals How Gerrard Masterminded Braga Shutout

Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi has given manager Steven Gerrard full credit for the Light Blues’ 1-0 win over Braga in the Europa League yesterday evening.

The Gers were far from secure at the back in the first leg at Ibrox last week, conceding two goals as well giving away 13 shots, but it was a very different story in Portugal.

Braga managed just one shot on target and were limited to very few openings, which Hagi believes was all down to Gerrard’s tactical masterplan:

“Everything we worked on in the two days leading up to the game I think we pretty much did everything. I can’t say Braga had a clear chance, just one with a header but that was from a corner.”

“We knew they would have really good ball possession but our tactics were amazing. We played a really good game and in the end we deserved to win. Tactically, defensively, offensively we played really good. What the coaches planned, we executed in the field.”

Hagi, himself, also played a key role in the night’s proceedings. He missed a penalty just before half time which many thought could be a pivotal turning point in the tie.

However, the Romanian made up for his mistake in the second half. He put Ryan Kent through on goal before the winger slotted home to make it 1-0. The vital away goal clinched their passage into the last 16 for the first time in nine years.
