Club’s Transfer Stance Revealed As Rangers Table Bid For 15 Cap Montenegrin International

Red Star Belgrade are keen to keep Mirko Ivanic and are prepared to hand the 27-year-old a new contract, according to reports in the Serbian media.

There were claims yesterday that Rangers tabled a €3.5m (£3m) bid for the attacking midfielder, but it seems the offer was not accepted.

Ivanic has been capped 15 times by Montenegro, and he is a key player for Red Star, but the Serbian club are suffering from financial problems and it has been reported that they would be open to bids for any of their top stars.

Rangers’ move to sign Juninho Bacuna from Huddersfield Town would suggest, though, the Scottish club have ended their interest in Ivanic. The two players play in similar positions on the pitch so signing both of them would have been a surprise, but we shall see if there are any further developments before the transfer window closes later this month.
