It is believed that the Gers’ first offer of around £900,000 was rejected by Swansea, with the Welsh club having reportedly set a £2m asking price.
Whether the Bears will decide to go that high, it remains to be seen. He did excel during a loan spell with Plymouth Argyle in the first half of the season.
Whittaker scored nine goals and provided seven assists in 25 League appearances before returning to his parent club in January. He clearly has impressed Michael Beale. When asked about the player and fellow transfer target Todd Cantwell, the Rangers boss said:
“They’re two excellent players (Todd and Morgan) and we’re looking for excellent players. They’re at different stages of their career but they’re two players who we’re aware of, that are good players, and will probably move in this window.”
Beale clearly feels confident that both Whittaker and Cantwell will move north of the border but we shall see if that ends up being the case.
