Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend claims he would consider making a move to Scotland when his contract expires at Selhurst Park next month.
The 29-year-old, who has been capped 13 times by England, will be leaving the Eagles on a free transfer, and when asked whether he’d be open to a switch north of the border, he replied:
“I’m open to everything. If there’s an option that presents itself and it’s the best one for me and fulfills my needs. I wouldn’t turn it down just because it’s in another country.”
Rangers supporters on Twitter are very much split on whether manager Steven Gerrard should consider signing Townsend this summer:
Would be decent addition good option

Ffs! Turns up for about 3 games a season for Palace, no idea how he’s survived as a PL player this long but a huge no for me.

I think Andros Townsend is a great player but I can’t see any links to Rangers being true. Financially I don’t think we can afford him and I’m not sure he fits our model. Expect a young player, more of a team player, with potential sell on to be signed for RW.

There are a number of pros and cons to Townsend moving to Ibrox. He will turn 30 in July and he will likely command a huge salary which the Light Blues would not be able to pay.
However, if he is serious about moving to Scotland, he is likely to be prepared to take a large wage cut. He is also comfortable playing from the right-wing; a position that the Gers could do with strengthening.
