Rangers are reportedly interested in Liverpool midfielder Pedro Chirivella. The 22-year-old is out of contract in the summer and manager Steven Gerrard appears to be keen on snapping up another player from his former club.

Most Gers fans won’t have heard of the Spaniard. He may have been at Anfield for six years but he has hardly played during that time.

Chirivella has managed to play just 11 games for the Reds’ first team, but he is said to be a capable holding midfielder, who can dictate play with his passing range.

Chirivella started out at one of Spain’s top clubs

The Spaniard came through the academy at Valencia, his home city, spending nine years with the La Liga side, captaining the side at a number of different age groups.

Chirivella moved to Liverpool in the summer of 2013 and spent the next year playing for the club’s Under 18s before being given opportunities for the first team during preseason ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.

He made his senior debut for Liverpool four and a half years ago

Chirivella made his senior debut under Brendan Rodgers in a Europa League group game against Bordeaux in September 2015 but he has rarely played since Jurgen Klopp was appointed Liverpool manager.

He has featured more prominently this season for the Reds, having played six times in domestic cup competitions, including wins against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup and Everton in the FA Cup.

Chirivella’s loan spells have developed his game

Most of the midfielder’s first-team experience has actually come on loans away from Liverpool with the player having spent two spells in the Netherlands with Eredivisie clubs.

Chirivella featured prominently for Go Ahead Eagles in the second half of the 2016/17 season but the Dutch club were relegated at the end of the season. He spent the whole of the 2017/18 campaign with Willem II in what proved to be a more successful spell, playing 31 times in the league as his side finished 13th.

He has a good football brain

Chirivella has been praised by his coaches at Liverpool for his footballing intelligence and his selflessness. The Spaniard has the ability to steer others around the pitch as well as dictating player from a holding midfield role.

The best example of that came against Everton’s first team in the FA Cup earlier this campaign as the 22-year-old helped guide the youngsters to a famous Merseyside derby win.
