“We’re Not Far Away” Tavernier Makes Title Claim As He Addresses Rangers’ Difficult Start To The Season

Rangers captain James Tavernier believes the Light Blues will compete for the title this season if they can improve their consistency.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side are only two points behind league leaders Celtic but they were thrashed by the Hoops earlier this month and have looked far from convincing so far this campaign. Tavernier, however, is hopeful that his team can start to build some momentum:

“We are not far away. It is only two points and we have only played the first block of the season. There are plenty of games to play so it is down to us to keep our standards and the levels of consistency going through the games to create a real good momentum heading into the games.”

It has been a season of extremes for the Gers so far. The squad did extraordinarily well to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League but, despite how close they are to Celtic in the table, their league performances have not been good enough.

If they continue on their current trajectory, it’s hard to see the Light Blues staying in touch with the Hoops for very long. As Tavernier says, though, they do have an opportunity to build a head of steam after the international break with 13 games between now and November 12th.
