Rangers ‘Closing In’ On 3rd Signing Of January Transfer Window

Rangers are “closing in” on the signing of Lens winger Oscar Cortes, according to Football Scotland.

The Colombian international is expected to fly in for talks before completing a loan move to Ibrox ahead of the transfer deadline on Thursday.

There is still a chance that the deal could be called off as contracts have yet to be signed but there is confidence that Cortes will be a Gers player before the window shuts.

The Light Blues will have an option to buy, although any permanent transfer to Glasgow will depend on how the 20-year-old performs during his six months at the club.

What do Rangers fans need to know about Cortes?

The forward is a right winger by trade, but he can also be deployed on the left wing or as a striker if required.

Cortes only moved from Millonarios in his native Colombia to Lens for €4.5m last summer but he has failed to make the grade in France.

Manager Franck Haise has played him in just four matches this season, and to his credit, Cortes has scored once and provided an assist. Most of his minutes have, however, come for the French side’s B team.

The winger is set to become the Gers’ third January loan signing

Manager Phillippe Clement was keen to reinforce his options in the final third of the pitch, and the club have already brought in Fabio Silva from Wolves and Mohamed Diomande from FC Nordsjaelland on loan to help out.

After Abdallah Sima suffered a long-term injury, though, bringing in another winger before the end of the month was a necessity, and it now appears that, with Cortes, Rangers have found their man. It still remains to be seen whether these three signings will be enough to mount a title challenge this season.
