Rangers supporters have been discussing which first team player deserves to be crowned the club’s player of the year.
After a pretty poor season, the contenders are few and far between, but some fans on Twitter have rallied around Malik Tillman as the main candidate. Plenty of others are, however, far from convinced:
The best of a very bad bunch

I’d be happy for the move to be made permanent, a few game winning goals/assists against low block who we usually struggle against, the old firms will come but I’d like to see the team built around Tillman, Cantwell and Raskin

If people had converted the numerous other chances this guy created his stats would be awesome! Not his problem if players can’t score

Player of the year against teams like Ross county & St johnstone when we play at home

It’s Tillman all day long. Tav has scored some important goals and probably the goal of the season but he’s regressed this year IMO.

Tavs got 17 goals and 8 assists this season.
Tillman has 12 goals and 5 assists this season.
Based on the last 2 OF games, it’s Tavs award all day long.
Tillman non existent in these games.

We can go through the entire squad, and there is only really a handful of players who deserve to be in contention. Captain James Tavernier would be another option, although his form has only improved in recent months.
While Tillman has had poor games, particularly in the Old Firm derbies, you can’t dispute his numbers. 12 goals and five assists in 37 appearances is not a bad return for his first season in Scottish football.
Whether those sorts of figures justify the club paying the £5m required to sign Tillman on a permanent basis, though, is another matter entirely.
