Sky Sports Pundit Provan Backs Rangers As He Labels SPFL Resolution ‘A Stitch Up That Would Make The Mafia Blush’

With accusations flying between Rangers and the SPFL over the proposals to end the Scottish League season, the Light Blues have found an unexpected ally in former Celtic player Davie Provan.

Writing in his column for the Scottish Sun yesterday, the Sky Sports pundit laid into the resolution which would see the lower leagues ending their seasons early, while the Premiership likely to follow suit later this month:

“Everything about this plan stinks, not least because there’s no reason to call the lower leagues now. But, as usual, fairness took second place to self-interest in a stitch-up that would make the Mafia blush.”

Currently, the situation is a mess. You have Gers fans drawing up petitions for SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster to be suspended, while the club themselves want an investigation into how the voting for the SPFL resolution was handled.

The SPFL have asked for them to hand over claims from a whistleblower that clubs were coerced and bullied into voting for the proposal. However, Rangers are currently refusing to hand over evidence until an investigation is officially opened. It is a complete fiasco and doesn’t portray Scottish football in a good light.
