Rangers, Celtic and Everton are among the teams keeping tabs on Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff, according to the Chronicle.

The local newspaper claims that the 24-year-old is open to signing a new contract with the Magpies but, with just seven months remaining on his current deal, he still hasn’t put pen to paper on an extension.

Teams from outside England, including the Gers, will be able to speak to Longstaff and his agent directly on January 1st; one month from today.

It was a couple of years ago that Newcastle turned down approaches from Manchester United, having slapped a £50m price tag on the midfielder. Things haven’t quite gone to plan for the player since then, though, having struggled to kick on and realise his potential

With no sign of Longstaff agreeing to extend his stay at St James’ Park, he could now move on a free transfer next summer.
