REPORT: Rangers Have ‘Set Their Sights’ On Signing 6.8M Rated Congolese International

Rangers have “set their sights” on snapping up Racing Genk winger Theo Bongonda, according to Footnews.be.

The Belgian website claim “Scottish sources” have confirmed to them that the Republic of Congo international is a target for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.

Bongonda was signed from Zulte Waregem for €7m in 2019 but he has just a year left on his contract and he will be offloaded if a team makes a good enough offer this summer.

Footnews believe that Rangers could offer between €6m (£5.1m) and €8m (£6.8m). However, that does seem a bit steep considering the 26-year-old’s contract situation.

It should be pointed out that Bongonda did perform well last season, scoring 13 goals and contributing five assists in 43 appearances. He even captained his side on a few occasions. Even so, the fact that he could be available for free in six months does suggest that Rangers won’t break the bank to get him.
