Rangers are expected to receive £1.2m if Malik Tillman seals a permanent move to PSV Eindhoven when the transfer window reopens, according to Football Scotland.
The Light Blues were given £1m in compensation and a 10% sell-on clause by the American’s parent club Bayern Munich after they gave up their purchase clause on the player last summer.
Tillman has subsequently joined PSV on loan who have an option to buy for £12m, which they could trigger as soon as January.
Since making the switch to the Eredivisie in August, Tillman has performed well, scoring 5 times and contributing 3 assists in 14 appearances.
Tillman has made it clear that he wants to join PSV
When asked whether he was keen on moving to the Netherlands on a permanent basis this week, the 21-year-old gave a very enthusiastic response:
“I don’t know what will happen – that depends on PSV and Bayern. But if PSV activates the purchase option, I don’t think I have much to complain about. Then I would be playing at a high level at PSV, I want to get better and ultimately take a step up again.”
Rangers have still lost out financially
While raising £2.2m from Tillman’s move away from Ibrox will be seen as good business by some, you do have to keep in mind that the midfielder could have joined the Gers for £5.8m, if they had refused to give up their purchase clause to Bayern.
Considering PSV are now prepared to shell out as much as £12m in order to keep him with the Dutch club, Rangers could have easily doubled their money on the player within a matter of months. It’s certainly not great business acumen from the board.
