‘He Will Stay’ – Sky Confirms That 50 Year Old Won’t Be Rangers’ Next Manager

AZ Alkmaar manager Pascal Jansen is not in the running for the manager’s job at Rangers, according to Sky Sports.

The 50-year-old had been linked with the post at Ibrox after a strong start to the season at AZ, but Sky claim that “he will stay” with his current club.

It is believed that the Gers are whittling down their shortlist to replace Michael Beale, with chairman John Bennett and chief executive James Bisgrove leading the recruitment process.

In addition to Jansen, a number of other names have been ruled out, including Preston boss Ryan Lowe, former Chelsea manager Graham Potter, Billy Davies, Scott Parker and ex-Birmingham City head coach John Eustace.

Bennett and Bisgrove are now said to be conducting final interviews before deciding on who will fill the Gers’ hot seat.

Who are the favourites to become Rangers’ next manager?

There are two outstanding candidates for the job at the moment. Yokohama F-Marinos manager and former Rangers player Kevin Muscat is in the frame.

Philippe Clement is the other main option, with the Belgian having had successful spells at Genk and Club Brugge, winning three consecutive Belgian titles, before managing Monaco last season. Former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner has also been mentioned as a potential contender, although it appears he is not one of the frontrunners.

When will an appointment be made?

There is no set timeframe to have a new manager in place but the Rangers’ board are expected to be consulted soon once Bennett and Bisgrove have finished their interviews and decided on their favoured candidate.

Ideally, you would hope they would be keen to get this process done and dusted before the international break is over. The new boss will want to have enough time to prepare for the game against Hibs on Saturday week.
