REPORT: Rangers Legend Claims Gers Could Sell Star Player In The Summer

Rangers legend Barry Ferguson has recent mentioned that the Gers could offload some of their top players in the summer transfer window, noting Glen Kamara as a potential casualty in an interview with Go Radio [via Ibrox News].

Kamara isn’t the only player who Ferguson thinks may leave Rangers in the summer – in his list of potential departures, he also mentioned Borna Barisic and John Lundstram.

Ferguson said: “They need to balance the books a wee bit, that is natural as they have brought in a number of players. Scott Wright we are waiting for that to be confirmed – I think Glen Kamara.

“Don’t be surprised if there’s another one that might raise a few eyebrows. Just somebody you might not expect as you have guys coming into the final year of their contracts, Borna Barisic, John Lundstram.

“You can’t allow them to run down the contracts. If Rangers, Michael Beale doesn’t want them to be there, if they are not willing to commit, Rangers need to cash in.

“You need to speak to them and I am sure those conversations have happened between Michael Beale and the players. I said about Colak, I liked his attitude and he scored goals but it was clear in my eyes he wasn’t Michael Beale’s type of player. It wasn’t a surprise to me. But I think you will see another one or two players going out the door you maybe wouldn’t have thought would.”

How would Rangers be affected by the loss of Glen Kamara?

Being Rangers’ only natural defensive midfielder, Kamara would likely need replacing if he is sold in the summer. Not only this, the Gers are currently lacking somewhat in central midfield players – if Kamara leaves, they would start the season with just three fully fit central midfielders.

The Gers will have a congested fixture list next season. Therefore, they will need to rotate their squad to accommodate this – but if they do not have the players to do so, they risk burning out their midfielders.

Would the other potential departures be a blow?

Likewise, while he is far from Rangers’ best player, it would be wise if Rangers held onto John Lundstram – even if his contract is set to expire next summer.

An industrious player, he brings an indefatigable work rate to the middle of the park – should Kamara leave, he could be a good pick to replace him in the holding role.

Likewise, Rangers do not need to sell Borna Barisic – if he is let go, they would be left with just Ridvan Yilmaz as an option at left-back.
