Rangers winger Scott Wright is set to leave the club to join Turkish outfit Pendikspor in the Super Lig, according to a recent tweet from Heart and Hand Podcast.
While the deal has yet to be finalised, both Rangers and Pendikspor have agreed a deal – he will leave the Ibrox Stadium for a fee of £500,000.
Wright joined Rangers from Aberdeen in 2021 for a £175,000 fee – since then, he has scored five goals in 51 Scottish Premiership games for the Light Blues.
In Heart and Hand Podcast’s tweet, they wrote: “Scott Wright off for talks with Turkish side Pendikspor (me neither) after clubs agreed a £500k fee.”
Will Rangers miss Scott Wright?
Last season, Wright’s impact during Rangers’ Scottish Premiership campaign was rather minimal. Over the course of 23 league appearances, he registered just a single assist, failing to score a goal along the way.
When Wright was snapped up by the Gers in 2021, he looked like a promising prospect, as he was just 23 at the time. Now, aged 25, he appears to be operating at the peak of his powers – and yet, he remained on the fringes of Rangers’ squad, even as a fully-fledged senior player.
The Gers have signed a slew of high-quality players over the summer transfer window – as such, sadly, some players will need to move on as a result. Despite this, the loss of Wright should not affect Rangers too deeply.
How can the Gers replace Scott Wright within the squad?
In today’s market, a £500,000 fee is a pittance – especially for a club of Rangers’ standing. Should they wish to replace Wright, they may need to look within their own squad.
Thankfully, the Light Blues are not short of top quality wide players at present. They have talented stars such as Abdallah Sima, Tom Lawrence, Todd Cantwell and Rabbi Matondo. Additionally, other players such as Kemar Roofe and Ianis Hagi can also do a serviceable job on the wings when called upon to do so.
There are also several wingers in Rangers’ B team – like Thompson Ishaka, Arron Lyall and Ross McCausland – who they could call upon in Wright’s place.
