Rangers Consider Hijacking Celtic’s Bid To Sign Winger Who “Runs Like Bale”

Rangers have joined Celtic and Fulham in tracking Charlton Athletic wingback Alfie Doughty, according to The Athletic.

Journalist Nick Miller reports that the Light Blues are considering whether to offer a contract to the 21-year-old, who will be available when his current deal expires in the summer.

Celtic did make a number of bids for Doughty in October before the last transfer window closed but, after having their offers rejected by Charlton, they decided to sign Diego Laxalt on loan from AC Milan instead.

However, it is believed that the Hoops retain an interest in the Englishman, who the Athletic claim “runs like Bale” comparing his speed and agility to the Real Madrid star.

Whether Rangers need a player like Doughty, it is up for debate. Manager Steven Gerrard generally operates with Ryan Kent playing on the left-wing, cutting in onto his stronger right foot, rather than having an out and out winger.

Doughty can operate at fullback too, although he would lack the defensive capabilities of someone like Borna Barisic.
