REPORT: Rangers Youngster Closing In On Move To Premier League Club

Rangers youngster Connor Young is nearing a permanent move to Premier League outfit Brentford, according to a report from the Daily Record [via Ibrox News].

Young, 18, previously joined Rangers from Hibernian last summer – but he could be on the move once again, as it has been reported that he has been on Brentford’s radar for some time now.

Last season, he spent the latter half of the campaign on loan at East Fife in Scottish League Two, where he scored a single goal in eight appearances – he also scored seven goals in 26 games for Rangers B in the Lowland League.

Will Rangers miss Connor Young?

Currently, it is difficult to see where Connor Young fits into the Rangers squad. Following the departure of Alfredo Morelos, the Gers have shelled out for a collection of centre-forwards in his stead.

In the ongoing summer transfer window, Rangers have brought Sam Lammers, Danilo, Cyriel Dessers and Abdallah Sima to the club – all of whom can function or are natural as a striker.

Conversely, Brentford have something of a crisis in the striker position, given that star man Ivan Toney will not be available to play until January due to his ban imposed by the FA.

As such, a move away from Rangers may be the best outcome for all parties in this situation. While he is clearly a talented youngster, he is not needed by the Light Blues – his career will likely benefit from joining a team that has more uses for him.

Who else has left the club during the summer transfer window?

Gers head coach Michael Beale certainly seems keen to stamp his identity on the Rangers squad – he is not afraid to cut big names if he deems it necessary. So far, he has sold Fashion Sakala, Lewis Mayo and Antonio Colak have both been sold by the club.

In addition to this, Mateusz Żukowski, Ryan Kent, Scott Arfield, Filip Helander, Alfredo Morelos and Allan McGregor have all departed the club on free transfers. Furthermore, Ben Williamson and Alex Lowry have both been loaned out to Partick Thistle and Hearts, respectively.
