Rangers Bag 20.7M Jackpot From European Campaign As Success Helps Club Off The Pitch

Rangers’s run to the Europa League round off 16 last season bagged them £20.7m in prize money, according to Football Finances blogger Swiss Ramble.

Steven Gerrard’s side were eventually knocked out by Bayer Leverkusen but their time in the competition saw them increase their revenue in the tournament by £6.4m from the previous year.

Of course, the Gers’ financial losses of £17.5m do mean there is still some work to do to break even but it must be noted that around £10m of that was lost due to the club having to play games behind closed doors.

Another important point that Swiss Ramble makes is that the Light Blues are closing the revenue gap to Old Firm rivals Celtic. In 2018, the Hoops were earning £69m more than Rangers but that has now closed to just £10m.

It appears the Bears are not only overtaking Celtic on the pitch but they are close to making a breakthrough off it as well.
