“On Their Wanted List…” Journalist Confirms Rangers Will Target Striker Who Scored 26 Times Last Season

Rangers retain an interest in Sunderland striker Ross Stewart, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Scotland international was first linked with a switch to Ibrox last summer but it had subsequently been reported that the Light Blues had turned their attentions elsewhere. O’Rourke, though, believes a move could still be on the cards:

“I think Ross Stewart will definitely be somebody who figures highly on their wanted list. He is somebody who could come in there and do a job for Rangers. They’ll be looking at his contract situation at Sunderland, with the player entering the last six months of his deal. It’s definitely one that Rangers would like to pursue.”

As O’Rourke mentions, Stewart’s contract with Sunderland is set to expire at the end of the season. Black Cats boss Tony Mowbray has recently spoken out to say they have yet to make a breakthrough in terms of persuading the player to extend his stay at the Stadium of Light.

If that doesn’t change in the coming weeks, the English Championship may be forced into selling their prized asset, who scored 26 times last season.

Considering Kemar Roofe’s injury problems and Alfredo Morelos’s own contract situation, recruiting a new number nine like Stewart could well be a smart piece of business.
