Newcastle Set To ‘Step Up’ Attempts To Sign Rangers Marksman

Newcastle are targeting Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos as they look to strengthen their forward line in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper reports that Magpies boss Steve Bruce will “step up” his search for a new striker, and he is very keen on signing either the Colombian or Hull City forward Jarrod Bowen before the end of the month.

So far, though, Newcastle have not been able to table an offer which would be acceptable for either player.

Rangers are highly unlikely to offload Morelos midway through the campaign. The 23-year-old is the Bears’ top goalscorer with 28 goals this season, and is a key player in Steven Gerrard side’s title challenge.

The Gers boss has already stated that £40m would not even be enough to tempt the Scottish club into selling in January, and Newcastle will likely have to look elsewhere.

Morelos has expressed his desire to play in England but it seems the Light Blues are determined to keep hold of their star for now.
