McCoist Makes Gascoigne Comparison As He Urges Free Agent To Consider Rangers Switch

The Ibrox Stadium.

Former Rangers striker Ally McCoist has urged Jack Wilshere to take a leaf out of Paul Gascoigne’s book and make the switch to Ibrox.

Wilshere is currently a free agent after leaving West Ham last month but the former Arsenal star has expressed interest in moving to Spain or Italy. However, McCoist feels his career could benefit, as Gascoigne’s did, by opting to play in Scotland instead:

“Gazza enjoyed some of his best years of his career with Rangers, so why not Jack Wilshere? We’d have him in two minutes because the boy can play and Ibrox is the perfect arena for him to parade his skills.”

Wilshere’s injury record is still a major concern. His situation isn’t really comparable to Gascoigne in the sense that he hasn’t had one or two major injuries, like Gazza, but a succession of them throughout his career.

The 28-year-old could be offered a pay as you play contract, but it remains to be seen whether the Light Blues would be interested in signing him. Midfielder Bongani Zungu has yet to make his full debut for the club despite the South African international joining from Amiens on loan in October so there isn’t much room in the squad currently.
