Rangers midfielder John Lundstram did not have the best of games as the Light Blues slumped to a 2-1 defeat in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier against Malmo last night.
The 27-year-old misplaced a few passes and struggled to make an impact as Steven Gerrard’s side failed to stamp their authority on their lively Swedish opponents.
Supporters on Twitter weren’t too impressed by what they saw from Lundstram but most are willing to give the former Sheffield United player more time to settle in at his new club:
Lundstram looks lost

wouldn't play him in that middle 3 again that's for certain

A wee reminder that John Lundstram is literally (not literally) in the door all of two minutes. Show him some of that famous Ibrox patience ?

Did we sign lundstram for this level? If we did he's not up to this level.

Lundstram will do fine in SPFL, but he is no improvement on the likes of Arfield. We needed a CM upgrade, and its so evident tonight.

He struggled all night, fingers crossed he’ll get the hang of it.

He's played in position which is alien to him. Harsh.

His short passing is horrendous

First European game away against a team half way through their season and with a Rangers team missing key players? Give the guy a chance..:

With Glen Kamara and Ryan Jack both absent, the midfield three of Lundstram, Steven Davis and Scott Arfield didn’t really gel together.
While Davis got the Gers out of a hole by scoring deep into injury time, a massive improvement will be required when they face Malmo at home next week. Lundstram, in particular, needs to show he deserves to be playing in the first team week in, week out.
