Rennes are “ready to spend” €15m (£13.6m) to sign Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, according to Footmercato.net.
The French website claims that the Ligue One side have switched their attention from Amiens’ Serhou Guirassy to the Colombian international.
Saint-Etienne and Marseille were also reportedly after Morelos but the two clubs have subsequently dropped their interest, with Rennes now in pole position for the player if they can hold off competition from a number of English Premier League clubs.
The likes of Newcastle, Aston Villa, West Ham and Crystal Palace have been mentioned as possible destinations in the past, although Footmercato did not name Rennes’ potential rivals in their story.
Steven Gerrard has left the door open for Morelos to leave if the club receive the right amount for the 23-year-old, although the Light Blues boss has emphasised he is very happy to keep him if no satisfactory offer is made this summer:
“I know that every player has his price. I want all my best players here. I’ve said it many times. For us to be successful, we need all our best players fit, available and out there on the pitch.”
“Will we get bids for our best players? It’s quite possible and something I can’t control, so it’s something we are just going to have to manage going forward.”
