Journalist Claims Rangers Are Set To Get A “Record Fee” As Interest In 22 Year Old Remains “High”

Rangers will expect to get a “record fee” for left-back Calvin Bassey, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The former Eurosport columnist believes that the “high” profile of the 22-year-old should allow the Light Blues to set a hefty asking price for the defender:

“Rangers have to consider that Bassey could go. It’s going to depend on what offers land, but his profile is so high at the moment that they could probably expect a record fee for him if they negotiate well.”

Nathan Patterson’s £12.6m move to Everton in the January transfer window currently stands as the highest fee that the Gers have ever received for a player but they would likely expect any club to smash that record if they were to let Bassey leave.

Aston Villa and West Ham have both been mentioned as potential suitors for Bassey but, so far, no club has come forward with a formal offer.

Reports in the Scottish media have suggested that Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side won’t sell the Nigerian international for less than £25m, which is seen as a reasonable figure, considering his outstanding performances last season. We shall see if any team is prepared to match the figure.
