Hutton Fears Rangers “Missed A Trick” By Failing To Snap Up 2M Target Man

Former Rangers defender Alan Hutton believes the Light Blues should have done more to sign striker Lyndon Dykes when he was available in the summer.

The 25-year-old moved to Queens Park Rangers for £2m in August and subsequently went on to star for Scotland as he played a key role in helping them qualify for the European Championships. Rangers, along with Celtic, were linked with the forward when he was still at Livingston and Hutton thinks he would have offered something different to Steven Gerrard’s current options in his squad:

“Rangers have missed a trick with him. I think he could have definitely given them something different to the likes of Morelos and Roofe. Itten possibly is the same type but they’ve used Itten more in a wider position. I think he’d have been a great addition for the Rangers squad, definitely, because he’s proven it on a high stage now.”

Dykes is very much a traditional target man and, while he could have been useful as a plan B, when games were not going the Gers way, Gerrard’s side have shown they have the firepower to break through the majority of defences this season.

If Alfredo Morelos does stay at Ibrox for the rest of the campaign, the likes of the Colombian, Cedric Itten, Kemar Roofe and Jermain Defoe should provide enough goals for Rangers.
