‘What I’d Be Doing’ Pundits Says Rangers Should Bring THIS Light Blues Legend To The Club

Pundit and former Rangers player Dave MacKinnon has suggested that the Gers should bring Graeme Souness on board to assist in the hunt for a new manager.

After Michael Beale was sacked following a dismal 3-1 defeat against Aberdeen at the weekend, Rangers’ new priority is to find a new head coach to take the reins at the Ibrox Stadium.

What did Dave MacKinnon say regarding Graeme Souness?

Speaking to PLZ Soccer, MacKinnon said: “It’s all about the process for me. I heard Frank Lampard’s name being bandied about yesterday. I think that’s a commercial decision, where they’d bring in someone like Lampard to do something like Steven Gerrard did.

“If you look at the board of the club, there’s not really any football people. In years gone by you had Sandy Jardine, John Greig and Walter Smith, who would all contribute and have a say on the football side of it.

“What I’d be doing if I was on the Rangers board is contacting Graeme Souness, asking him to come on board and lead a recruitment party to get the right manager on board.

“What you need at the club right now is not just a coach, but also someone who can restructure the whole football organisation. There are many areas that need tightening up.”

Should Rangers bring Graeme Souness on board?

First and foremost – Souness should not be appointed as the next manager of Rangers. Not only has he not managed in a professional capacity since 2006, he also seems perfectly content to remain in his current punditry role.

Nevertheless, it may not be a terrible idea to add him to the backroom staff – even in a minimal role. Souness is held in incredibly high regard at the Ibrox Stadium – his mere presence could inspire the squad to give everything they have for the club.

Beyond this, however, what does Souness have to add, besides being a nostalgia act? If the Rangers board are serious about bringing in the right manager, they should invest in their recruitment team – rather than wheeling out their old favourites in a ham-fisted attempt to appease the fans.
