‘Going Head To Head’ Reliable Journalist Reveals Old Firm Are Battling To Sign Bargain 29 Cap International

Rangers and Celtic are “going head to head” in the race to snap up AZ Alkmaar winger Albert Gudmundsson on a free transfer, according to Daily Telegraph‘s Mike McGrath.

The reporter, who is generally reliable when it comes to transfer stories, believes the two Old Firm rivals have taken a keen interest in Gudmundsson, who has 29 caps for Iceland.

Since joining AZ from PSV Eindhoven in 2018, Gudmundsson has made 95 appearances, scoring 24 goals and contributing 10 assists, helping the Dutch club finish fourth, second and third in the Eredivisie over the past three seasons.

The 24-year-old generally plays off the right flank, but he has also been deployed on the left-wing, as a striker, as well as in central midfield.

Undoubtedly, Gers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his backroom staff would already have been aware of Gudmundson’s qualities, and the fact that he could join for free next summer, when his contract expires, makes the transfer very tempting.
