Gerrard Raises Doubts Over Key Rangers Star’s Participation Against Hamilton

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Alfredo Morelos‘s late return from international duty means he is a doubt for tomorrow’s game against Hamilton.

The 23-year-old played against Ecuador in a friendly on Wednesday but protests in Colombia have meant he was unable to get a flight back until today. Gerrard says that Morelos may yet still play but he will make a late decision on his participation:

“Alf will be desperate to play, there is no doubt about that. If he went straight to Hamilton from the airport, he would be desperate to play because that’s the kind of character he is.”

“In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if Alfredo is kicking a ball around the aeroplane right now. My job is to decide whether he should play, about finding that balance. I’ll pick a team that I think is capable of going to Hamilton and winning.”

Morelos was originally expected to fly back on Thursday but an air traffic control strike grounded his plane. He is now taking a 14-hour flight which will get him back to Glasgow this afternoon.

However, with the Hamilton game kicking off at 12:15 tomorrow, it gives the forward very little time to rest and recuperate before he travels to New Douglas Park.

The likeliest scenario is that Morelos will be named on the bench for the match with Jermain Defoe taking his place in the starting line up.
